high cholesterol

Every year, since I was 45, I have made it a point to get an annual checkup.  This year I found out my cholesterol levels were really high. Specifically my LDL or low-density lipoprotein which was 196 (normal cholesterol is 99 or lower).

My total cholesterol has been going up slightly which I found out is fairly normal.  But this time, because of my LDL level, my doctor was ready to prescribe a cholesterol lowering medication.  I made a deal with him to give me three months to lower cholesterol naturally before we resort to drugs.

I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to blog about this.  I know there are other women over 40 out there with the same problem and I am determined to get my high cholesterol under control.

In starting my research on how to lower cholesterol naturally I found that consuming a lot of saturated fats and trans fats is the number one way to get high cholesterol.  Something tells me my M&M addiction is going to have to come to an end.

I exercise five times a week for at least 30 minutes so I don't think that contributed to my high cholesterol.  A lack of exercise is definitely a cause for low HDL, though.  So I know that diet is what I need to concentrate on.  I hope you will join me on my journey to lower cholesterol naturally.
